Saw the marvelous works at last inn ST Mary's: what a feat for eye and senses! What a testimony to human collaboration in freedom, for the sheer love of it! Of story alive through craft. Of craft alive through story.

Aye, less then one week to go. End of the week (yesterday) Midlothian Council told us it can't afford after all to have the bunting raised for us. And that for an unprecedented roll of events of 50 + and counting, and 21 venues and counting, with street mural project being set up and with empty town centre shops meant to be opened for us ... Strange also that the street fair on the 17th is said to get bunting erected, though...?
Penicuik's Coming together ? Not on this one, unless someone tells someone that 8 days of celebrations and countless hours of bone wrenching volunteering and unanimous findings in Neighbourhood planning that people of Penicuik wish for more uplifting elements in their streets, do merit finding that monetary something - or whatever it is that is missing - to invest in community morale. Watching the Inside Job just now, in prep for next Saturday, the surrealness of 'having no money' for basic community services is ever more stark. The problem is not, never was, and never will be, 'lack of money', but as always the lack of imagination and courage as a community to come together and reset the laws that do not serve our well being. Am continuing this post better on the other blog here, the one called 'From Phantom Wealth to Real Wealth' The programm for the yurt circlings is now being developed in calendar format, check it out: http://pdaf2011.weebly.com/yurt-calendar.html

Seriously sleeves up now in Drama Rehearsal tonight - being filmed " And being confirmed in the choice of theme and play: getting used to and getting familiar with the chances of a different kind of economy being quite possible now... as we dare to listen to what makes some sense to many more every day....: a debt free society Thank you Linda, for writing this play! And thank you guys for coming together and for having fun with it in Penicuik. Thanks to some very imaginative and connected local business people you might find yourself soon in front of an art gallery instead of an an empty boarded up shop ... ;-)
Where? Wait and see soon (grins)! How? Because you and I managed to get some cleaning done! When? What? the cleaning up or the art gallery? Both! Well, the cleaning up asap. The art gallery as of Saturday the 3rd of September, our cool and up coming PDAF ! Today two of us were getting our heads together and planning the ccc credit scheme of PDAF. I think we made quite some progress as to how one can register as a currency carrier, and how we can keep track of the 2 kinds of credits we are playing and paying with:
There will be a credit book for each ccc carrier which will account for both transactions. This accounting will be done on the basis of mutual freedom, and not a tit for tat way of reckoning, e.g.: "if I have given an hour I get an hour of event". You can do that if you choose to do so, but you might also choose to give dozens of hours of volunteering and only receive 1 hour of event participation. You may ask: how can I choose as either event participant or as event holder? Very good question! The key to that is "to be able to see and feel the whole" and to stay connected. And this is the key to a sustainable economy, and it is that kind of economy is what we aim to playfully get us all more familiar with. Ok folks, lets play! We are doing away with all debts, if you are game ;-).... (more too follow soon, so catch up soon!) meanwhile see also: http://pdaf2011.weebly.com/how-to-pay-with-ccc-credit.html Today Jenni and Anneruth went to Prestonpans to be shown round the Goth Tavern by Andrew Crummy: It was such an inspiration to meet the artists of Prestonpans in the Goth going about their business - which is cleaning , cooking, meeting, greeting, and just simply oozing supportive creative community. I Penicuik lost Jenny to Jane's art classes in Prestonpans! Good on you!!
Have a look through the slide show, read the captions. The genial way how this social enterprise flourishes is that they attract tourists to this legendary place in the now also legendary mural town of |Prestonpans by offering them not just home brewed beer but also a tour of the place and a meal for a voucher of £10 or £15. 95% of the profit of the Goth, which serves fab food and hosts functions and clubs, go back into the community. And there is always an exhibition on! Find out more abut the Goth here: http://www.thegoth.co.uk/ and see more about our visit on June to this year's 3 Harbours Festival here https://picasaweb.google.com/117445521233701725799/3HarboursFestival2011 We are so excited that Andrew and the 3 Harbours Festival community supports us this year in Penicuik to spruce up the town here: we are promised a contingency of paintings and people on Saturday the 2nd of September Penicuik better get ready for this chance of a lifetime! 3d of August today, 3rd of September is the opening bash. What have we done today? Trying to encourage man in charge of townhall to be open to have art displayed during festival weeks plus on a more permanent basis in the public hallways. Next step: find a ladder and tools and able person to test the hanging capability of ceiling (as the walls need to stay clear of holes). Also: check insurance coverage with artists. Also had email exchange/follow up with business connected people to be at long last more successful in beautifying the town via populating closed up shops/window with visual art at least. It has been talked about so much by so many: time is now to come together and making things bright and beautiful. Yes? On a bright and hopeful note: met a young dancer in an old house filled with kids and youths - she thought Penicuik precinct has improved with the flowers... and amidst all that there is greening and blossoming .... and people coming together
...and there is the sun -not for sale. |
